Features of the PE100 Geothermal Pipe

PE100 geothermal pipe is highly resistant to environmental stress cracking. The highest resistance available is also completely immune to rapid crack growth propagation and carries and ESCR rating of 100 times greater than the minimum required by CSA 448.

PE100’s superior resistance to chemical and corrosion attack means this geothermal pipe works well in all types of soil and lake/pond applications. It is specialized to not support rust or biological growth and most chemicals like glycols and methanol have not affect on the long-term performance.

The PE100 geothermal pipe is super flexible. This means that fewer fittings at directional change points are required than any other pipes on the market. It will retain its flexibility down to -118C and due to its dynamic elasticity, water within the pipe can freeze completely solid without damaging the pipe. The lightweight materials make it easy to install and helps reduce labour cost.

The fusion process creates a monolithic system which offers geothermal installers and homeowners peace of mind after the pipe is buried deep underground.

A minimum 100 year service life, PE100 pipe is a reliable, worry free choice that performs well for temperatures up to 60C.

Leak proof joints and sturdy construction means the PE100 geothermal pipe acts as an ideal ground source heat exchanger in any loop system, helping circulate liquid to and from the ground source heat pump. With an average thermal conductivity of .225 BTUH/ft it offers exceptional heat transfer.

This geothermal pipe has a very distinctive green color which helps contractors  and technicians identify it as a geothermal pipe when digging in the area. When it comes to geothermal installation our Geothermal specialists are here to provide the education and consultation you need for your business or home in Edmonton and surround areas.

Other Geothermal Pipes on the market

Not all geothermal pipes are created equal. While they may appear similar, there are crucial factors to consider when selecting the appropriate pipe for your geothermal installation. Many geothermal contractors may not be well-versed in the various types of geothermal piping and typically stock only one type. In a standard geothermal setup, thousands of feet of this piping will be purchased and installed, most of which will be permanently buried underground. Fortunately, many geothermal pipes come with a 50-year warranty—double the lifespan of an average heat pump. However, the downside is significant; if inferior pipes are used or if leaks occur, the cost of excavation and replacement can be prohibitively expensive.

REHAU RAUGEO - Geoexchange Pipe

The REHAU RAUGEO  system, influenced by European design, incorporates the durable and flexible PEXa pipe. It features RAUGEO double U-bends which enhance the capacity per foot of the drilled well, reducing the required borehole footage by up to 30% compared to traditional single HDPE wells.

Getting significantly more BTUs out of a borehole like this opens up so many project doors ” – Gregg Drunagel of Green Hill Mechanical

RAUGEO’s use of PEXa pipe, a pioneer in heating applications, brings enhanced durability and flexibility to geoexchange installations, making it more resilient against harsh job site conditions and allowing for quicker, less invasive installations.

Recognized by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association and certified to CSA C448, RAUGEO pipes are well-suited for ground loop heat exchangers. Additionally, the system’s design includes two factory-formed 1-inch U-bends per vertical borehole, optimizing capacity and reducing the need for numerous wells, as demonstrated by projects like Arcadia University. RAUGEO’s design also facilitates easier connection to balancing manifolds, streamlining the process of isolating and managing individual loops for filling and purging, which saves time and reduces the need for large pumps.

For distant loop fields, INSULPEX pre-insulated PEX piping offers an effective solution for connecting supply and return tails to buildings.

Geo-Stripe® Geothermal Pipe IPEX USA LLC

geo stripe geothermal pipe

Geo-Stripe® polyethylene pipe, designed for geothermal heating and cooling systems, stands out with its tri-red stripe and is made from durable, flexible material. It features a pointed U-bend for efficient installation down geothermal wells, and U-Bend Loop assemblies are customizable to any length up to 1-1/4 inches. Fittings are permanently fused for reliability, and each coil is pressure-tested before shipping.

Certified by NSF, this lightweight system is not only easy to install but also resistant to decomposition, oxidation, and other damaging factors that typically affect metal pipes. Geo-Stripe® pipes offer enhanced longevity and efficiency compared to metal alternatives, with lower maintenance costs and significant long-term savings. Additionally, the flexibility of these pipes allows for safe handling and installation, reducing risks of damage from thermal expansion, contraction, or sudden impacts, even in very low temperatures.
